A member of the Connecticut Bar since 1969, David M. Cusick graduated from Hamilton College and the University of Virginia Law School. While in law school, he was elected to the Order of the Coif, a national law school honorary society. Prior to joining Howd, Lavieri & Finch, LLP in 1972, he served as a law clerk for Justice Elmer Ryan of the Connecticut Supreme Court.

Mr. Cusick is head of the firm’s Real Estate Department, and has extensive experience representing and counseling clients in residential and commercial real estate transactions, development and financing. Such legal services have included representing both developers of condominiums and other planned communities and the community associations themselves.

Mr. Cusick also represents and counsels applicants or concerned neighbors in matters involving subdivision, zoning and other land use regulation, including appeals to court; he also regularly represents the Town of Norfolk Planning and Zoning Commission and the Norfolk Inlands Wetlands and Watercourses Agency.

Mr. Cusick represents both property owners and recipient organizations, including several local land trusts, in connection with charitable donations of real estate, and the creation of Conservation Easements.

Mr. Cusick also provides legal representation to several area banks.

Mr. Cusick has lived in Norfolk with his wife, Margaret, since 1972. He has served in various leadership positions in the community, including the presidency of the Winsted Area YMCA, Inc., and as a member of the Northwestern Regional #7 Board of Education, as well as Chairman of its Building Committee during a $20,000,000.00 addition and renovation program.

Mr. Cusick is assisted by Paralegal Vera Hatfield. Ms. Hatfield began working for the law firm while in high school, and has worked with Mr. Cusick for more than twenty years. She received her paralegal certificate from the Hartford College for Women.
